About SHRM Rainier West
Who We Are
SHRM Rainier West is a professional chapter of SHRM serving HR professionals and business leaders throughout our region.
Formerly known as SHRM Olympia, our chapter has evolved to better reflect the broader communities we support across Western Washington.
We are a volunteer-led nonprofit focused on advancing the HR profession and strengthening workplaces.
Our Mission
To share HR expertise that makes a lasting difference in people and workplaces.
We do this through:
-
Professional development programs
-
SHRM & HRCI recertification credits
-
Regional networking opportunities
-
Workforce and community partnerships
Why the Name Change?
As our membership and regional partnerships grew, our chapter name needed to grow with us.
SHRM Rainier West reflects our commitment to serving HR professionals across:
-
Grays Harbor County
-
Lewis County
-
Mason County
-
Pacific County
-
Thurston County
The transition represents:
-
Expanded regional reach
-
Long-term sustainability
-
Professional governance
-
Alignment with SHRM standards
While our name has evolved, our commitment to education, community, and ethical HR leadership remains the same.
Our Story
2004 – Local Roots
SHRM Olympia began as a satellite partnership with the SHRM South Puget Sound Chapter, created to serve HR professionals in the South Sound region.
2005 – Official Charter
Following strong community interest and growing participation, the chapter officially chartered as an independent SHRM affiliate in July 2005.
What began with 10–15 dedicated volunteers quickly evolved into a vibrant professional community, hosting standing-room-only programs and expanding regional engagement.
Growth & Impact
Over the years, membership grew to more than 170 official members, with active participation from over 200 HR professionals across Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, and Thurston counties.
2026 – A Regional Identity
As engagement expanded and governance matured, the chapter relaunched as SHRM Rainier West — reflecting a broader regional footprint and a renewed commitment to long-term sustainability and professional excellence.
